Public Access Defibrillators in Brill
Also called Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
Brill has two automated defibrillators in the village. Read about these life-saving devices and how to use one on the British Heart Foundation website (opens in new tab)
The two Brill defibrillators
The Fire Station AED is maintained by James Tuffley, Area Trainer for Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service. The Brill Sports & Social Club AED is maintained by Mike Horn, a member of the Club managing committee.
Both AEDs are registered with South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) and The Circuit (website opens in new tab). This means that if you dial 999 in response to a medical emergency in Brill, the call handler will direct you to either Brill Fire Station or the Sports & Social Club (they are actually only 200m apart on foot via the playing fields, although significantly further by road). The emergency call handler will give you a code to open the relevant cabinet so you can remove the device for use. Once with your casualty, you switch on the defibrillator and follow the voice prompts.
Be prepared!
Although simple to describe, coping with a collapsed neighbour or visitor whether or not you need to use an AED can be a traumatic experience. We strongly recommend you prepare for this unlikely - but possible - eventuality. Here are some suggestions:
READ this detailed information from South Central Ambulance Service (pdf opens in new tab); everything you need to know, including stuff you didn’t even know you needed to know…

WORK THROUGH the BHF free 15 minute online training (website opens in new tab) You just need your mobile phone or iPad and a cushion. Highly recommended!

We are planning to site a third Brill defibrillator close to the windmill. There are also AEDs in Brill School and Brill Surgery but these are only available when these places are open.
