The Best of Brill : Brill Sports & Social Club
Brill Sports and Social Club (BSSC or The Club) is at the heart of village life; coffee mornings, meetings, a grandstand view of activity on the playing fields, changing facilities for sports teams plus a well-stocked bar, comfortable seating, large screen TVs - and a very warm welcome.
A membership club
Brill Sports & Social Club (BSSC) is a friendly and comfortable place to play and enjoy sport or meet for a drink and chat. The Club is inclusive and convivial; everyone is welcome, including families and dogs.
Although we want everyone to feel they can drop into BSSC, please remember we are a membership club, dependent on membership support and dues. This means that if you use the Club regularly, would like to get involved in events or sports - or simply want to support a wonderful community amenity, please do become a member.
Membership is £10 a year; over-60s £5 and under 18s and those in full time education free. Life Membership is £150. Brill residents and non-residents equally welcome. Read the BSSC Rules (pdf opens in new tab).
Sports -
The Club supports the management of the cricket and football pitches which are used by Brill United Football Club, Brill United Youth Football clubs, Touch Rugby, and Brill Cricket Club (Adult and Junior).
We also host junior cricket (All Stars) coaching sessions on Friday evenings during the summer months - plus many other team games, such as Aunt Sally (a traditional Oxfordshire throwing game) on Wednesday evenings during the summer, Thursday evening quizzes, and Dominoes - for which new players are needed for our local league side.
Away from the pitch, the Club has both TNT and Sky sports packages and offer regular big screen viewings of Premier League football and other major sporting events - including this year’s Autumn Internationals.
Non-sports events include our popular Friday morning Café, the renowned monthly Brill (open mic) Sessions - plus occasional specials such as Summer BBQs, Curryoke, Race and Gin Nights and events to mark Burns Night and Cheltenham Gold Cup. Last but not least, BSSC’s live performances by local musicians are absolutely not to be missed!
- and Social
BSSC plays an increasingly important part in the community life of Brill. We organise the late Summer Brill Festival (August Bank Holiday weekend) and host lots of community meetings and social events.
The bar serves real ale, lager and cider and a good selection of wines, spirits and soft drinks. Both card and cash payments are accepted. There are two seating areas inside the Club, both with large screen TVs and one with a darts board and pool table (we have an active team, if you’re interested).
Outside there is a generous area of decking with tables and umbrellas, plus an outdoor table tennis table. We have ramps for access plus an accessible toilet with baby changing equipment. Changing facilities for players are at the back of the building.
The Club’s rooms can be booked for private events and celebrations. Email Jo to find out more and book your event.
Keep in touch!
Keep an eye on the Club noticeboard by the front door, community noticeboards (The Firs, Windmill Street, Playing Fields), Facebook (opens in new tab) and Bernwode News. Members also receive an informative monthly newsletter.
A warm welcome awaits
BSSC is located in the corner of the playing fields, near All Saints Church. Vehicle access is down a narrow lane off Church Street; drive up between The Pointer and Brill Memorial Hall and turn left at the church gates. The Club’s postcode is HP18 9RT.
Our president is Mike Horn. Neil Shaw is chairman of the managing committee and the Club steward is Jo Snell.
The best way to get involved with Club activities or join one of our sports teams is to become a member and receive our newsletters. Drop in during opening hours and have a chat with Jo. See you soon!
