REQUESTS & PERMISSIONS

Works and Structures on Brill Common

The Brill Common & Walks Policy defines what we mean by “works and structures” and explains the rationale for the associated permissions. It’s quite complicated; if you’re lucky enough to live adjacent to Brill Common or The Walks you really must read the Policy! Then, when you’re ready, please email the Parish Council to discuss your plans.

Skips

If you plan to rent a skip and the skip is to be sited on common land, please contact Brill Parish Council. Remember that The Square and The Green are part of Brill Common. If the skip will be on a street or road, please contact Buckinghamshire Council.

Events

If you wish to hold an event on public or common land - including The Walks, the Square and the Green - please email the Parish Council as far in advance as possible so we can support and guide you. Please also contact The Brill Society for events involving the windmill.

Vans and cars parked near Brill Windmill on a wet winter's day

Midsumer Murders filming at Brill Windmill in December 2021. Driving across the common - even this short distance - requires permission from the Parish Council.

Parking on the Green

Parking is already an issue on the streets of Brill so the Parish Council will consider requests to use the Green to accommodate large events. Please note that this is by prior written request only - and may be refused in spells of prolonged wet weather. We also require that you provide a steward to manage the parking - and make good any damage. Requests are considered on individual merit, generally at Parish Council Meetings, so please apply well in advance of your event.

Other issues

This is an extract from a letter sent by Cllr Emi Slater in July 2022 to all residents living adjacent to The Walks :

The Walks is carefully looked after by a very committed group of volunteers and is also grazed by sheep and it is important we all work together to support the volunteers and the graziers in their work to keep the Walks the beautiful place it is for all to enjoy. The Parish Council appreciates that people who live on the Walks will want to make sure their children and grandchildren are able to play safely and don’t get stung by nettles and so may wish to strim the immediate area around their house. I would stress that this is only permitted if it is in consultation with the Walks Committee and the Parish Council.

Again, to understand our thinking behind this and other stipulations, please read the Brill Common & Walks Policy - and talk to us!
