How to use this activity sheet

Before you set out

Explore together, whatever your age!

Wander around the common and try the activities for your age group - or mix and match as a family.

ℹ️ Practical notes for using the activity sheets

  • Print a pack or split into age‑group cards

  • Pens/pencils on string work brilliantly outdoors with a clipboard

  • Take only photos - not souvenirs

  • Have fun and enjoy exploring Brill Common! 🌳🐾

☐ Can you find something brown?

☐ Can you spot a bird?

☐ Can you spot a minibeast?

🧑 Older Explorers (Ages 9 to 12)

🕵️ Detective question: Why do you think this habitat is good for wildlife?

📝 Activity: Write one sentence about how Brill Common is looked after.

👨‍👩‍👧 Adults & Grown‑Ups

Join in – you’re explorers too!

☐ Help children spot wildlife without disturbing it

☐ Talk about why commons are important for people and wildlife

☐ Point out seasonal changes you notice

☐ Encourage quiet moments and curiosity

💬 Conversation starter: What would Brill Common look like if people didn’t care for it?

🌿 Family Nature Pledge

As a family, can you make a nature pledge for the future? Here are some ideas.

  • Be quieter outdoors to try and listen and identify wildlife calls

  • Return each season to spot changes

  • Spend one day each month exploring a new outdoor space

  • Learn to identify three new plants or animals as a family

  • Go on a monthly litter pick

  • Share your nature experiences with friends or neighbours to inspire others.
