BERNWODE NEWS
David Chetham
Purpose A church magazine which provides local news and features for all the community, churchgoers and non-churchgoers. We reach those parts not adequately covered by social media.
Successes We have maintained an uninterrupted monthly issue since 1980, keeping residents informed and in touch with local events.
Challenges Recruitment of more volunteers to help as correspondents and also with editing.
Money received from BPC? None
Future application for funds? None planned
Support required from BPC? To ensure Brill residents are fully aware of the benefits of subscribing to the Bernwode News.

BRILL COMMUNITY CINEMA

John Powell (Chair) and Jon Cable (Treasurer)
Purpose We are a not-for-profit community venture providing cinema screenings for Brill and surrounding villages
Successes 14 screenings of recent release movies incl 2 screenings of NT Live Encore productions. Attendance has ranged from 30-60 people.
Challenges We have re-invigorated our committee with new volunteers and this has enabled more screenings in 24/25 but we have not managed to be playful enough to provide advance notice of screenings to our audience hence audience levels are a little down this year 20-40 people from 30-60 people we hope to improve on this in the 25/26 season. Costs have risen (e.g. insurance, film licenses) but we have tried to maintain ticket prices. End of year bank balance shows we just about managed to balance income and expenditure but no funds to invest in e.g. updating equipment. Our projector will need replacing relatively soon at a cost of £600.
Money received money from BPC? Yes. Money received when we first set up Brill Community Cinema, none received since. We spent it on equipment.
Future application for funds? Further funds in 2025 would allow us to replace and update some of the equipment
Support required from BPC? The planned upgrades to the Hall are very helpful to us and much appreciated we would very much like additional financial help to replace equipment- circa £300 of the proposed £600.

Support required from BPC? n/a

Josie Symes, Hon. Secretary
Purpose To provide transport to medical appointments, including Brill Surgery, for retired people. We cover the villages of Brill, Boarstall, Chilton, Dorton, Ludgershall, Wotton Underwood, Ashendon and Piddington. Our drivers are all volunteers.
Successes In the past year, we provided about 80 lifts to various medical facilities. We have about 30 volunteer drivers, ably coordinated by Judy Basford and Suzie Scahill. We have a coffee morning to cover the cost of our insurance and to make small grants to local organisations that support activities for the elderly or to local medical facilities. This year, our coffee morning is on Saturday, 26 July, at the Sports and Social Club, from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. Cake and produce donations would be very welcome!
Challenges Mostly just carried on as usual.

Brill Village Fête

Michele Giles
PurposeTo run a traditional, local, family focussed fete with stalls and activities that appeal to everyone. The profits are then used to support local needs.
Successes We have had amazing support from the local community in terms of helping on the day and attending the fete. This meant that the 2024 Fete raised over £4000 which was donated to The Brill Hall Refurbishment Fund, All Saints Church, The URC and The British Legion.
Challenges in the last 12 months?: We need new fresh committee members ready to take the fete forward to 2026 and betond!
Money received from BPC? Yes - to buy two gazebos for the stalls.
Future application for funds? Maybe - for more gazebos. We have been very lucky with the weather but if it rains we still do not have enough for all the stalls. These can also be used for other village functions.
Support required from BPC? Features on the website, etc. Letting us know of any potential helpers, new people to the village, etc.
