Brill Walks project

Wanted: Brill Explorers!

Back in 1993, The Brill Society produced two excellent little footpath guides. These are no longer available but the Parish Council would love to get the routes tested and updated and the leaflets re-produced in a clearer, more user-friendly format. To do this we need the help of all sorts of walkers: fast route-marchers, young families ambling along, committed dog walkers, elderly or disabled walkers - and anybody else with an afternoon or summer evening to spare and a pair of comfortable walking boots or shoes.

There are eight walks in all. All, by the nature of being Brill, involve some rough grass and gradients - but the difficulty and duration varies from a two mile stroll to an arduous circular route of 16 miles.

We’d like volunteers to walk each route and think about the following points:

  • accuracy and clarity of the original directions - and suggestions how these may be improved

  • obstacles and challenges, especially for little legs or others with mobility issues

  • points of interest along the route, which would be nice to know more about

  • who the walk is best suited for so we can categorise or grade them accordingly

We also need some photos of key points. Mr Gregory’s original map is a thing of beauty but the walks themselves are presently as dense blocks of text which can be rather uninviting to today’s readers. The aim of this project is to produce a booklet or series of leaflets which build on these publications but are clearer and more accessible.

Please email Hannah, the parish council RoW rep., if you’d like to be involved.
