Our new Parish Council

A message from Cllr Jules Newman:

Firstly I would like to thank my fellow councillors for their support and confidence in electing me as Chair for the first year of this council. Our objective is to continue with the excellent work started by our predecessors - in particular, the recruitment and appointment of the Wildlife & Community Ranger. Our plan is to have this position filled and functioning by the end of the year.

Over and above this crucial task, we will work to ensure our community continues to enjoy the amenities and environment that we share. 

I look forward to welcoming you to our monthly meetings. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via the Parish Clerk.

The clue is in the name; our website is for everyone. Here’s a quick guide.

The ABOUT tab is Parish Council stuff: minutes, financial reports and policies; newsletter archive; parish maps - and brief bios of our new councillors.

The COMMUNITY tab includes community safety, four pages of Brill clubs and groups and businesses, a potted history of Brill, and some of our Best of Brill features.

Looking for waste and recycling services, the latest from Brill Common or wondering what a living verge is? Click on the ENVIRONMENT tab - and go to LEISURE if you want to visit the windmill, book the MUGA, or reserve an allotment.

PLANNING and ROADS are self-explanatory (the latter includes Brill bus services) whilst HELP & CONTACT includes a large directory of services to refer to if you need help, be it accessing mental health services, dealing with debt, or getting a lift to the clinic and hospital appointments.

A community website is only worth the considerable effort required if it meets the needs the local residents so please do tell us if you find errors, out-of-date information, broken links - or if there’s something new or different you’d like included.

Community Bulletin Boards

There are three community bulletin boards:

• junction of Windmill Street and Brae Hill

• Playing Fields (end of Temple Street path)

• road leading to The Firs (opposite Spa Close)

The boards are there for everyone to use. Use is free and you don’t have to ask permission - but please follow these guidelines.

• Laminate or enclose ALL notices. Faded, battered, tattered notices will be removed.

• Use MAP PINS (large coloured round or conical heads) - not drawing pins. Drawing pins fall out, litter the area, and get stuck in dog’s paws.

• Remove out-of-date notices promptly. If your notice is long-term (an advert, for example) please renew it regularly. If it looks dated, we will remove it. Sorry!

• Consider smaller format notices. A5 instead of A4; quite big enough and will free up space for other people.

• Think who may see your notice. We will remove (without explanation) any notices we consider irrelevant to the community of Brill, inappropriate, or otherwise unsuitable for public display.

Finally!

This newsletter is emailed every month to nearly 200 subscribers and we really appreciate your interest and support. We’d love to increase our circulation to 250 - half of all Brill households - by the end of 2025 so, if you enjoyed reading, please mention this newsletter to friends, family and neighbours. Tell them there are two ways to subscribe:

We also publish an abridged print edition a few days after this digital version. There are always copies of this on the Parish Council noticeboard (on the front wall of the Memorial Hall), in the pouch on the door of the Parish Office (near the Memorial Hall kitchen), and in All Saints Church, Brill shops, and Unity Health centre.
