Nettles on The Walks

Unfortunately, the nettles on The Walks (the large, undulating, wooded area between the village and Brill Common) got a bit out of control over the summer months. This was due to a combination of factors and was certainly not (contrary to rumours!) a deliberate “re-wilding” policy on the part of Brill Parish Council. To cut a long story short, the PC has approved the paying of contractors to cut and collect the overgrown nettles that have built up over the summer and this will be done just as soon as the contractors are available.

The management plan for The Walks and Brill Common is constantly under review as climate, ash die-back and many other factors affect the natural world. Chains around the War Memorial

We removed the old chains when the memorial was cleaned and the garden replanted earlier in the year but found they were too corroded to be used again. New chains were ordered, and fitted last week by Liz Springs, Chair of Brill Parish Council, and Andy Fisher, Chair of The Brill Society.

Thank you so much to all who have been involved in the renovation of our beloved memorial and surrounding bee-friendly garden. We hope you agree that it is now a beautiful, dignified and fitting memorial to the Fallen of two World Wars.

New homes needed for Ukrainian guests

Arrangements made over a year ago are are now coming to an end and the Ukrainian families who took refuge in Brill are looking for accommodation to rent. They’ve put down roots in the area; working or training, attending local schools and making friends - so they naturally want to stay in the locality. Please can you help? This would be a private rental agreement, for two bedrooms (or more), for a year. Please email Cllr Jennifer Tuffley.

Community Life-Saving Training

Training is well underway using the equipment funded by Haddenham & Waddesdon Community Board - and there really is no excuse not to get trained! It couldn’t be more convenient; a stroll across the playing fields to the Sports & Social Club for just 60 minutes of lively, informative, hands-on instruction alongside friends and neighbours. Heaven forbid any of us ever need to put the skills into use - but why take the risk of not being able to help a family member or fellow resident in desperate need?

Please choose one of the dates below and book on the Brill Parish Council & Community website. All sessions are 11am - 12 noon in Brill Sports & Social Club, behind All Saints Church. We will be following the British Heart Foundation’s community training programme, which uses virtual (DVD) trainers - but there’s also plenty of opportunity to ask questions of a knowledgable real-life person.

LIBRARY OF THINGS

“I’d like to borrow…” Haddenham & Waddesdon Community Board’s initiative is really taking off!

Why borrow instead of buy?

• It's cheaper (for us)

• It saves us space

• It increases product lifespans

• It's better for the environment

• It builds community

Based near Quainton but open to all, the Library is presently building up its stock and actively seeking donations of DIY and gardening tools, cleaning appliances, cookware, camping and leisure items, home entertainment and exercise equipment - and more! Take a look at the full wishlist on the Library’s Facebook page (you don’t have to be “on” Facebook to access it).

Brill Parish Council enthusiastically supports this brilliant initiative and we’ll keep you in touch with developments.
