Welcome to Brill!ласкаво просимо до Brill! (Pronounced: “laskavo prosymo”) Ukrainian families will be arriving in Brill very soon, with others on their way. Parish councillors Emi Slater and Jennifer Tuffley are helping to co-ordinate how we welcome and support the families. A support group for all involved has been set up and held its first meeting this week. The next meeting of the group will be Monday April 25th, 7.30pm in the Sports & Social Club. Please spread the word - and come along if you would like to help in any way at all. If you’ve already signed up to host a Ukrainian family, it is strongly recommended you contact Emi or Jennifer so they can support you and help link your Ukrainian guests with other families in Brill and elsewhere. Similarly, if you would like to host but have not already done so, please email Emi or Jennifer; they may be able to link you directly with a Ukrainian family. Refugee charities, the Government, Bucks Council, and the Parish Council all strongly recommend that you avoid using Facebook as a way of communicating with anyone in Ukraine. You certainly should not share any personal details on social media. There are many potential safeguarding hazards in this process and unscrupulous people are already taking advantage of the situation. Many kind people have already offered to help but more help is needed. This list will change as the community responds to the needs of each family but these are the priorities right now. Please email Emi or Jennifer if you think you can help fill these roles - and come to the meeting on April 25th. A small Sponsor Support Team who can support our hosts, especially more elderly hosts A liaison person to keep in touch with other villages and their support networks Any trauma experts who could support families and hosts Someone to lead on linking with GPs and dealing with health issues Anyone who speaks Ukrainian or Russian Someone to lead on creating ‘Welcome to Brill’ packs Anyone with links to the motor industry who could sponsor or arrange sponsorship of a minibus Someone to lead on setting up job network links Someone to help our guests with form filling Someone to lead on school/education/child support
