Wildflowers in Brill?Although we have wildflowers growing on Brill Common and in the surrounding countryside, people have told us how they would like to see areas of wildflowers within the village, particularly in out-of-the-way corners and neglected spaces. As well as being beautiful, wildflowers provide lots of things that insects need: food in the form of leaves, nectar and pollen, also shelter and places to breed. The insects themselves are eaten by birds, bats, amphibians, reptiles and small mammals, all of which contribute to the cycle of life. Patches of wildflowers in built-on areas can help link up existing areas of wildlife, making it easier for insect pollinators such as bees to move around. Wildflower habitats buzz with life! There are also strong cultural bonds that exist with well-known species of wildflowers, reminding us of childhood or holidays.
