Christmas Toy Appeal

Please support this local appeal. Run by Inspire Bucks, the appeal accepts donations of toys or money to ensure that local children of all ages living in disadvantage receive a Christmas gift. Last year the appeal enabled gifts to nearly 3,500 children in Buckinghamshire, including those living in the care system or facing severe financial difficulty.

If you’d like to chose a gift to donate, please take a look at the Inspire Bucks Amazon Gift List. (Note that there is a particular need for gifts for under-2s and teenagers.)

Brill Memorial Hall; your village hall

From the Hall Management Committee…

Brill Memorial Hall has a new website and online booking system. This went live on December 1st so please use it for all new bookings and changes to existing bookings. Your chosen date and time will be instantly reserved for your peace of mind and, provided you set up an account (really easy to do!) you’ll be able to make any changes with minimal delay. We’ve already emailed all the hall regulars to explain how it all works.

But … rest assured there are still humans involved. Kate, the hall manager, will confirm your bookings and take payment (as now) and Hannah, who designed the website and booking system and takes full responsibility for glitches, typos and any initial frustration, will be readily available on email to sort out any tech problems.

Finally, if you’ve not yet used Brill Memorial Hall for your children’s party or anniversary ball, why not take a look? Spacious, welcoming, reasonably priced - and the biggest and best golden maple sprung dance floor in the area!

A message from Cllr Steven Judge

With the cost of electricity still increasing, and the price of heating oil and bottle gas fluctuating, it is becoming more and more expensive to heat our homes.

What are the alternatives? Are solar panels cost effective? Is it worth buying a battery system? How do heat pumps work? Can I insulate my home cheaply? Can I reduce my carbon footprint? Brill Parish Council is organising a free workshop to answer these and any other questions.  Speakers include Kirsty Shanahan from Buckinghamshire Community Energy and Dr Michael de Podesta MBE, a scientist and public speaker on energy efficiency and climate change. You can see some of Michael’s work on his popular blog Protons for Breakfast.

Local suppliers will also be invited to be on hand with practical advice. All welcome.

We also value the opportunity to give something extra to subscribers - longer explanations or different perspectives - than is possible on the website.
